India Launches Single-Window Portal for Medical Devices Management

The Indian government has launched a single-window portal called the National Single Window System (NSWS) to streamline the import of medical devices in the country and provide ease of doing business to medical technology companies. The portal has been developed by Invest India through IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

Key Features of the NSWS

The NSWS facilitates applications for the certificate of registration and licenses to manufacture tests, evaluations, demonstrations, or training. Initially, the portal will be used for applying for the grant of a certificate of registration, a license to manufacture a medical device for clinical tests, evaluation, examination, demonstration or training, and a license to import medical devices. In the coming months, the addition of more such activities is expected. The central government has established the NSWS to build a “genuine single-window” system for medical devices management. The scope of NSWS includes all the approvals, licenses, registrations, and clearances as applicable

Streamlining Medical Devices Import

The single-window portal aims to streamline the import of medical devices in India, making the process more efficient and transparent. This will help medical technology companies operating in the country to focus on their core business activities, reducing the time and effort spent on navigating the regulatory landscape.

Future Expansion

In the future, the NSWS is expected to be expanded to include more activities related to medical devices management. This will further simplify the process for companies operating in the medical devices sector, enhancing India’s attractiveness as a destination for medical technology investments.
