Land Acquisition Milestone: 100% Land Secured for Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train Project
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of 100% land acquisition. The announcement was made by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on January 9, 2024. The project has acquired all the required land in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The entire 1389.49 hectares of land needed for the project has been secured.
According to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the project has also completed pier casting across 268.5 km and girder launching. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor has awarded all civil contracts, and the project is expected to be completed by 2028.
The bullet train project is a joint venture between India and Japan, with Japan providing a soft loan of Rs 88,000 crore at an interest rate of 0.1% for 50 years. The project is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just two hours, compared to the current seven hours by train.
The project is expected to have a production capacity of 750 passengers per train, with a total of 35 trains running on the route. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is also expected to create job opportunities and boost economic growth in the region.
The Indian government has been working on improving the country’s infrastructure, and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is one of the key projects in this regard. The government has also announced plans to build several other high-speed rail corridors across the country.
